Photographed on a rainy day outside of Philadelphia, this Garden Bench, one of a series, is made of Spanish Cedar, an excellent outdoor wood. Examples of this bench live happily in Oregon, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. All joints are mortise and tenon, and the adhesive is an epoxy more normally used in boat building. The bottoms of the legs are epoxied to minimize the wicking of standing water. Seat slats are fastened with hand-hammered copper rivets; surfaces are hand planed. |
